Study: sitting in front of TV and computer at night increases the chances of depression
U.S.
scientists said in a study that sit in front of the computer or TV
screen in late-night television or run when you sleep increases the
chances of depression. The
study, conducted by a team of neuroscientists at University Medical
Center Ohio with partial funding from the U.S. Department of Defense
calls addicts sitting in front of TV and computer screens during the
night to pause to reconsider. The
researchers said, who offered an animal «hamster» to dim light during
the night and followed the behavior changes and the brain that carry
similarities with spectacular symptoms of depression in humans, that
increased exposure to light industrial at night in the past fifty years
coincided with high rates of depression, especially among women, who are
more vulnerable for depression than men twice as. She
Tracy Pedrossian, who led the study published in the journal Molecular
Psychiatry »:« Our results in hamsters animals are consistent with what
we know about depression in humans. Although
exposure to light at night is associated with an increased risk of
breast cancer and obesity but the relationship incomprehensible mood
disorders. And
exposed animals 'hamster' under study to dim light at night is
equivalent to the light of the TV screen in a dark room for a period of
four weeks and results were compared with another group exposed to
natural light. The group then moved under study again to natural light for two weeks or four weeks before testing. The
results showed that it was less active and less attention than usual to
drink sugar-sweetened water and these symptoms are similar to signs of
depression in humans. The
similarities extended to its biological structure, the researchers
found changes in the hippocampus, a part of the brain, consistent with
what happens to people who suffer depression. And
also showed animals hamsters exposed to dim light at night it produced
more of a protein called tumor necrosis factor, a chemical messenger
moves when the body is exposed to injury or infection causes
inflammation during his quest to repair the damage. Said
Randy Nelson, who participated in the study: «The researchers found a
strong relationship between chronic inflammation and depression, for
this reason it is very important to reach this relationship between
exposure to dim light at night and increase the appearance of tumor
necrosis factor. And
said Pedrossian: «The good news is that people who stay up late in
front of the TV and the computer can undo some of the harmful effects
only through a return to the dark circle normal and reduce their
exposure to light industrial night.
